As I wish to pursue a career in Animation, I looked in depth into the different roles within an animation team, and what I would be learning when going onto my University course. I have learnt that most University animation courses have you learn the following:
Year one modules
· Life drawing
· Character design
· 2D and Stop Motion Animation
· Photography
· Motion Graphics
· Animation analysis
· CGI Animation foundation
· Integrated project.
Year two modules
· Visual storytelling
· 3D Animation project
· 2D Animation project
· Stop Motion Animation project
· Integrated group project.
Final year modules
· Professional Pre-Production for Animation
· Distribution methods and practices
· Dissertation
· Major Animation specialist project.
My main aspiration is to become a 2D or storyboard animator, as I feel my skills are best suited to this, However, in order to create a full animation from start to finish, I would need to have more than a single role within my project and essentially become a Director, producer, writer, animator and editor all in one when in bigger projects, there would be more people to take on these different roles to help workflow and ensure more work gets produced quicker than a single person doing everything. I am actually excited to push myself to create a full animation within the time frame, as I wish to learn more about the production process as a whole and expand my overall knowledge on the roles an animator would have depedning on the project.
