After creating my initial research; going into depth about my inspiration and the overall animation process as a whole, I decided to conduct a Survey in order to gather opinions on different elements about my project from people who didn't know much or anything about it. In order to do this, I used the website SurveyMonkey in order to put together nine questions in a survey before sending the link to different people I knew I would get a good response from without them being rude or joking around. The nine questions I decided on were:
What is your age?
How often do you spend on your phone?
Do you play mobile games?
If you do play mobile games, what style of game do you like the most?
What would you think a game titled 'Sour Punch' would be about?
Would you be more interested in playing a game from seeing an animated trailer for it?
What would draw you into playing a new game after seeing a trailer?
Are you often found skipping adds when watching YouTube videos?
If you were to see an un-skippable add for a game, would you be more likely to dislike the game or want to play the game?
In my project, I am planning to make an animated trailer for my game 'Sour Punch', an RPG style mobile game with interesting cut scenes and characters to help develop the world and environments you find the characters in. In my third survey question, I asked what kind of mobile games people played if they played them. Surprisingly I found a large range of answers as people only played one or two games that they specified, with RPGs and Puzzle games being the second two most popular areas of mobile gaming. This made a lot of sense as some of the most popular mobile games are in the classic 'Candy Crush' brain puzzle style as it was so popular in its generation.
I focused on what people would like to see from a trailer as seen in question 7. I was surprised to see that half of the overall response would have liked to see gameplay, so from this I will include a basic animated walking cycle of the characters in the world and passing it off as 'Gameplay.' My Trailer will mainly include character design, story and bits of comedy to help along the lack of gameplay and hopefully intrigue a larger audience. As a quarter of the response wanted focus on the aesthetic, I will ensure that the art included within the trailer is of the best quality I can make it within the time frame while allowing all the art to have a coherent art style.
As the final animation will be uploaded to YouTube, I decided to treat it as if it was a trailer for an actual game and how I would go about sharing the video about in order to gain traction for the game if it were to be real. From this, I asked if people would skip seeing this video if it happened to be an add or if it was an un-skippable add, what their opinions on the game would be after being forced to watch the video. I was surprised here too, over half of the responses being indifferent on the matter as they would judge the add based on quality rather than if it was forced upon them. As suspected, though, a majority of the others answering said they would dislike the game in this situation, which is understandable.
