[25/03/2019] Feedback from a Focus Group

Updated: May 24, 2019

After completing my first rough draft of my project, I put together a focus group in order to get informative feedback on what people liked, disliked or wished I would change about my project so far. After getting them to watch the video and giving time for feedback, which I allowed my peers to write down rather than verbalise, the following feedback I received was:

  • "I feel that the character design was amazing. The audio was cute and adorable. From the plot, I thought that it could be a bit more developed at times and the backstory could be improved upon"

  • "Good strong opening. Slow introduction which builds the tension, gives away good vibes when the characters are introduced was quite funny."

  • "I like the music choice, it fits the overall mood of your art. The zombie-like enemies in particular are shaded nicely. The highlights in the hair give it a sense of a glassy texture."

  • "Good use of sound effects. I like the music. Cutesy, bright colours."

  • "Good transitions. Change the text and maybe include names to the characters?"

  • "Nice animation. Good presentation. Nice Audio. I like the theme and idea."

  • "Good use of sketches to form the scenario. Good use of music to change from dark and moody to happy. Excited music really helps piece the scenarios and movements. Creative use of your artwork for the slideshows. Creative use of sound effects whilst at the same time being shown alongside the concept art."

  • "The animation was good showing who the protagonists are. They stand out with their characteristics."

  • "It was good. You gave the story/backstory. The characters were presented well at the end you showed everyone how they should look."

  • "You should ensure the pacing at the end isn't too fast so you don’t have to cram a lot in at once."

From all of this feedback, I found it was overall very positive with only minor things I could change to improve my project. After thinking more about it, I wish to play with the audio to give me more to work with rather than cutting it off in the middle instead. I feel like the first thing I need to do is change the font of the text at the start of the video, perhaps hand writing it to feel less basic and more intricate to the overall aesthetic of the video. Along with doing this, I will add more into the end of the video to further show the personalities of the characters along with names in the final slideshow of all the character designs.
